I'm not a plumber by any means but I do like the idea of being able to hide filters & heaters in a sump BUT the flooding aspect has me a bit scared to try it. Are there any failsafe sump setups?

Very, very easy. As far as the return goes. Just drill a small hole in the top of the pipe. Make sure to keep the water level in the sump around half way or so. Then cut off power and watch the water level rise and make sure it doesn;t go over the top and you should be fine. I have several pics od the sump I set up if you'd like. I used a drilled tank also. Let me know

yes, if you set it up right, in my set ups i drill a hole in the tank about 2" from the top for the outlet to which i fit the pipe, which then lets the water trickle down the tower that is built in to the sump tank the water level in the sump is set to an inch below the top, (when the return pump is switched off) you might have to fit a tap to the return depending on the pump you use, this way i know that if there is a power cut or a pump failure, then the water will only drain past the outlet and fill the sump up to an inch below the top of the sump tank, hope this makes sense if not feel free to ask more questions Wink

I ended up taking about another 1.5 inches off the drain pipe to lower the water level inside the overflow box

O love the look of it all. No tubes, wires or heaters hanging in the back of the tank. Much cleaner look

hi woo, it will all depend on where your outlet is positioned as to when it stops syponing your water, what you need to do is work out where to place the outlet so as when you switch your pump off (or powercut) the water level stops just below the top of the sump tank

the outlet is the pipe/tube that is allowing the main tank water to flow into the sump tank, make sense now ?

So if I have an all-glass megaflow that is drilled in the left corner that is what you are talking about?

you could put it that way but you need to work out where to drill the tank
