...I am new to NE, but I am not liking the clouds here. A few weeks ago, I went out on my balcony to have a cigarette and saw a kid looking up and pointing like he was counting something, and then he stuck out his arms like he was "testing" the winds. My mother-in-law was in town, and she was outside with me, and we had a laugh at him. Well, I looked up to where the kid was pointing, and saw what looked like a small funnel cloud--right outside my apartment.

Then, about 2 days ago, I was leaving good ole Wal-Mart with my daughter and saw every person in the parking lot looking up at the sky. I looked up and saw what looked like a huge mushroom-shaped cloud. It was huge. It was black and starting to "open" in the center. By the time I got to the intersection, the opening was larger. I didn't stick around to see if anything came of it and didn't hear anything else on it.

Are you natives just kind of numb to that sort of thing? Maybe I am just paranoid, because in ONE year of living in 3 different states--GA, FL, and TX, there was a tornado that formed near the locations I was in.

Anne:

No...it's not always like that and no...I'm not used to it either.

When my family picked me up at the airport Friday...those creepy clouds were the first thing they told me about so they're not numb to it either.

It's not that way all the time at all...but this time of year we do get the nasty storms & tornados. We're definately still in tornado alley just like OK and TX are.

So for me...I know it's going to be that way this time of year...but I'm not numb to it...it still kind of creeps me out, too.

Since I openly bitched about my trip to West Texas...I do have to say something positive, too.

100 there feels kinda nice.

I'm a big sweaty man here in the humidity - but there it was nice and dry except for one day.

I have a "suit" job & I can get completely soaked loading my car at 6 in the morning at just 75 if it's damp enough. Yuk.

And yeah - today is miserable.

Today if for sure hot. I don't have to wear a tie but I do work outside on black top. I sell New Honda Cars so the blacktop and all the glass really heat things up for me.

The humidity here isn't a problem for me. Where I grew up (Savannah, GA--right on the coast with marshes all over the place), you could walk outside and it would hit you like---well, I don't know. It was pretty nasty. This is nothing here. Houston, TX has dry heat, which made it really fun working at a car wash (yes, I worked at a car wash just before I joined the AF).
