Post subject: Shipped fish for first time.
well i went to USPS to ship some fish, i sold some on aquabid. well one was going express and the other 2 day priority, just very anxious to see how they will be when the buyer gets them. i laughed while i was there as the lady couldn't believe i was shipping fish, so she pulled out this big list that had a ton of animals and stuff on their that they're not allowed to let through the mail. saw some turtles and lizard pics on it, but thankfully no fish pics.

Cool. Way to take the leap.
I've always been apprehensive to ship.
Can you (and anyone else who ships) detail what you did, what you used & basically how you did the whole thing?
Might be educational for everyone.

Please do let us know! I need to ship some red cherry shrimp. Maybe it could even be a sticky?

well i work for an insulation company, they have sheets of styrafoam of various sizes, well i took a scrap piece and lined the bottom and sides of a box and made a top too. that is the box i used, well when i bagged the fish up, i double bagged 1 fish at a time, or 2 to a bag if they are fry, and bagged the size of the bag to fit perfect in the box. and also left about 1/3 water to the rest air. i also used bag buddies when i bagged the fish up. and the night before i cleaned the water.

I've got plenty of shipping boxes from when I had fish and shrimp shipped to me. I am just unsure of how to bag the animals. I think I have read that bag buddies will kill inverts. Have you ever sent shrimp? I am guessing no. If not, I'll have to do some research.

I haven't tried Speedee yet but I've heard most good things with them. I looked into it on my last few shipments. But they were in MO, an KS and they don't deliver there

I usually ship via USPS using Overnight Express. I use Kordon breather bags instead of the regular bags though. I add half r/o water and half tank water to the bag, drop some amquell in, and away we go. Works like a champ too. Anne, if you have too many of those boxes, I would love to have some.

Then, I'll bring them along with me if you guys are attending the meeting. I think I have about 10. I'll have to count them.
What size Kordon bags do you have? I could use one for shipping the shrimp--if you are willing to part with one. A bag for a box?
Let me know how many you guys need. MB, do you need them before the meeting?

They're medium size. I can ship 8 juvie ancistrus (about 1.5-2 inches) in each bag and about a dozen smaller ones at the one inch size. I buy them at Kensfish. It's a little expensive but well worth it when you consider the savings in fish. I rarely have DOA's anymore and I used to have that happen from time to time with the regular shipping bags.
