So come on folks how long have you been keeping fish ? and can you remember the first fish you got ? And dont say longer than you care to remember, me i have been keeping fish for about 36 years now started of with goldfish in the bowl then realised it want big enough so got the tank then discovered the different types of fish (especialy catfish ), then contracted mts (multiple tank syndrome) i knew i was a lost cause but hey i have had some fun and hardships along the way. So come on dont be shy tell all

I think I was nine or ten so that would make it either 35 or 34 years ago. My first "gotta have" fish was a Green Swordtail (Xiphorphorus helleri). I had this huge 10 gallon tank with two swordtails and a bronze cory cat. And shortly after that, I absolutely had to have a red-tailed shark (Labeo bicolor). Wasn't the best mix but I liked them. This was one of the old metal framed tanks with glass on four sides and slate on the bottom.

My mom claims that she set up a 55 gallon tropical tank (freshwater) with kissing gouramis, neons, a gourami, and a common plec (maybe some other fish were in there) when I was little (before I was 6 years-old)--I guess because she thought I would like it.

Then, I had my first 5 flat-back hex gallon tank with 1 or 2 and a (horrid) betta hex (holds about a pint of water) when I was in 5th grade.

Later when I was 19, I had the same type of 5 gallon that I had before with 2 F8s (figure 8 puffers) in freshwater . Then later, I added a fugu puffer . **GASP!!!!!!!!!** They were ALL in the same tank at the same time!!!!!!!! THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!

Last November, I bought a betta from Wal-Mart and put him in a one gallon bowl, and then into a Eclipse Hex 5 (5 gallon), and then later added a giant Columbiam ramshorn snail.

Now, I am proud to say that I have learned *some* self-control when getting new fish, and I am SLOWLY learning how to control MTS (not the snails, those are a different story ) I am also even more HAPPY to announce that I do RESEARCH BEFORE I bring anything home!

15 years of fishkeeping here.

I'm pretty new at all of this. I'm guessing 3 years or so but I am hooked for sure. 1st tank was a 10 hex, then a 20 hex. I then stepped up to a 45 along with a 20 long and a 20 high and a 24 gallon Aquapod for sw. 2 days ago I received my 125 and I couldnt be happier
