Why don't "common" albino bushynose have their own L number?
First person to give me the correct answer wins three of my albino bushynose.
Pickup preferred, however, shipping can be arranged at winners cost (aka, I'll breed them, raise them and give them to you but I'M not going to pay for shipping too!)
To my fellow fishkeepers across the pond, my apologies but I don't think I can send them there and I believe it would be cost-prohibitive.
all the best

Well, I'm going to guess that it's for a few reasons....
1) Some people still say it's a hybrid.
2) There are TONS of varieties of the species.
3) They still can't pinpoint a geographic origin of the species.
Right?

I know that I care pretty much only about the few that I have. I am not about to memorize them all. So - I might have looked up ABN back when I got them.
Ah sheep! Hubby was on the computer last night, and I couldn't be here! Oh well!

Gary,
you're the closest so you win. Let me know when a good time for you to drop by for some pleco's. You can critique my fish room efforts too Anyway, here's the scoop.
Point of Origin in doubt--correct
Tons of varieties--if you mean several congeners, as in look alikes with very similar morphology--correct (had to make a couple of assumptions )
Doubt on whether or not its a hybrid--correct
Blue eyes as a distinguishing characteristic of a golden (very similar looking ancistrus)--incorrect. The eye color of the L144 is black which seems to indicate that the L144 is a naturally occuring golden variant and not an albino.
There are two blue-eyed pleco's at the moment (Panaque cochliodon, and close relative Panaque suttonorum); however, it's not the L144
best regards
mike

Yes...occasionally it's refreshing. Don't let the wise-ass in you die off though - that's fun, too.
Mike:
Wow. You know. What I'd really like is 2 ABN and one BN - that'd give me a nice even 6 a piece. Have any regular BN? If not, 3 ABN would be great too.
I saved your phone # from last time - so I'll give you a call today about getting them & touring the fish room.
Thanks!

Easy peasy Gary, I've got juvies of both growing up right now and some itsy bitsy teenie weenie baby BN (body size not much more than 1/4 inch). I'm having a little bit of a problem with that tank right now. Not exactly sure what's causing it. It's almost like it keeps recycling but w/o ammonia or nitrate spikes. I'll figure it out by this weekend. It's not like there aren't enough filters on that poor little 20gal. Two HOB and two internal Hydro V sponges.
regards and happy B-day!

Mike how long has the tank been running ? Where are you getting the water from for the changes ? Sorry to ask but how are you cleaning the fillters ?

It's RO water, same as the rest of the tanks. HOB filters are cleaned about once a month but cartridges get replaced every two weeks or so (i.e. one week I change out one, the next week the other). Sponges are rinsed and squeezed into the bucket of tank water after I change water and before topping the tanks up again. It's the only tank out of the 12 I have up and running that is exhibiting these characteristics.
regards
mike
