Post subject: Dyed fish
Petland now has at least 4 tanks devoted to dyed fish. They had some Oscars with hearts and stripes, plus a bunch of mollies that were polkadots and stripes. Then there were the "painted tetras" in pastel colors and some other small fish that was bright pink, orange, or green.
From seeing tons of

banner adds apparently this is horrible and shortens the lifespan of the fish. I don't care enough about this subject to boycott and would never buy these anyways but it is getting ridiculous how much is happening.
I may change my tune if I can get an albino Oscar with a tuxedo tattooed on, that would rock! Maybe a mustache and top hat. And a monacle.
PetCo (the 72nd & Dodge location) sells dyed Parrot fish. I think it's sick and disgusting to tattoo and dye and maul fish just so someone can have something "cool" to look at.
Thanks for the reminder as to why I hate Petland.

Agreed - It's kind of weird to think that's desireable.
But almost every fish store I can think of occasionally has a few dyed tetras as part of some package deal buy. I don't know that I'd boycott a store - I rather opt to not buy any. If no one buys any of the fish, no one will dye any.
It would be more effective if the stores would know enough about the whole thing (and cared) to not buy any.

Ah but some stores either dont know or just dont care Mind you i think it was the late 80's early 90's that i first came accross them for sale as "Disco fish" dont think then people realised what had been done to them Yet still after all these years you can still buy them, why ?
Because people will still pay for them

I politely "educated" one store that I frequent about "glofish". They've stopped carrying them.

It's always such a predicament as someone who worked at a store. On one hand, you don't want these fish because of the health issues and just downright cruelty of it all. However, they are there and there really isn't much you can say or do about it just as an employee aside from educate them about the process as to which they are made and how it severly decreases the fishes life. At the same time these fish are being "manufactured" for a lack of a better term and just sit and die without being sold. It's sad that the "manufacturers" of these fish and the store owners themselves haven't came to the realization of how much harm it is to the fish as well as to any right-minded fish owner out there caring about the well-being of their fish.
