Post subject: getting the ball rolling
Hi all. I want to get the ball rolling on this topic. I want to show my juvenille fish. New to my collection.
The darker fish is my red texas (type of flowerhorn fish), and the fish in front is the red terror. Both are about 1 - 2 inches wide, and eat like pigs. They seem to get pretty shy when I bring out the camera.

Cool Parrot.
I don't know anything about those fish. Care to elaborate? Always fun to learn new stuff.
Thanks for the pics.

Red terror: Cichlasoma festae
Origins/Distribution: America South; Primarily Ecuador and Colombia
Sizing: Males up to 20 inches with females around 12 inches (One of the largest cichlids available)
Temperament: Red Terrors can be highly aggressive and territorial. Allowing enough territory for each specimen cannot be overlooked. Rocks, plants, and driftwood will provide good spots to call home. Neutral water with a tropical temperature are best though this fish is quite hardy. Similar sized fish are appropriate tankmates. Smaller fish may be killed. Having multiple individuals from this species is okay if the tank is large. A small space will cause fights to break out. Very belligerent even when not spawning. They have been known to be one of the top 5 most aggressive species over all by many hobbyists. They are down right mean to make it simple. A special note also is that, the females of this species is one of very few species that are more aggressive than the males. This isn't always the case, but most of the time the female is more aggressive of the two.
Life Span: 15+ years
Other: Festae are one of the most colourful species of neotropical cichlids especially during spawning. The female is typically far more colorful than that of the male, which can be seen with mojo's pair. They are slow growing fish (about half an inch per month if you're lucky) and don't really get to this severe temperament until they are close to being fully grown in most cases which would be males 20 inches and females are around 12 inches. Tank mates would only be included if there is plenty of tank space and they would include tinfoil barbs, silver dollars plecos and other similarly sized and temperamental cichlids only if as I've said, there is PLENTY of tank space.
A special note also is that, the females of this species is one of very few species that are more aggressive than the males. This isn't always the case, but most of the time the female is more aggressive of the two.

Red texas: hybrid, so no technical name
Possible parents (to my knowledge):
Texas cichlid X red shock flowerhorn
Texas X king kong parrot cichlid
Texas X red devil
Other info: From what I read and researched, they look very similar to Texas cichlids, but there color is not pearly blue/grey, but they either have a pearly pale pink to a rich dark red (similar to parrot red color), with the pearls of a Texas. They seem to have all the other similar personality and other physical traits of a Texas cichlid.

Cool!
Nice job with the info.
Eventually, I'd like to have more "profiles" like this. I just imagine it will be time consuming.
Thanks.

thanks,
These fish are growing so fast. They already look different, and it has only been a few weeks. I will keep posting pictures of these fish, with time, so we can see how they change and grow. These are two new breeds for me, so this should be interesting and a learning experience. I will post a new image soon.

Here are some photos of the red texas. She has been moved to the other tank, since she was getting beat up. All the light white/lt blue spots on here are pearl. She is pearling-up like crazy. Her color is really strange, almost a green/orange/yellow/brownish color. I wonder what her final color will be?
(I can't seem to get the red terrors photo lately, he has been shy)

Here is an updated photo of the Red Texas. Its is growing fast now and its color is never constant. Today, the Red Texas looks pink. I believe the color changes are due to the Red Texas flirting with other fish in the tank! [smilie=rk01_toccareilsedere.gif] Also, the KOK is growing. I don't expect anything huge, but a little notch is nice.

I am pretty pleased with the set-up right now. THe only thing i might change is the broken flowerpot in the corner. It used to be whole, but the fish were too big to fit in it, so i broke it , hoping they would use it now for breeding. I just don't like it. What is a good item to use for laying eggs on? Is a plate good, or just use some slate? Suggestions welcome.
