In fact, i love to debate my opinions against others. It's always fun.
I don't have a lot of time to respond to all your points as I am at work, but I will address a couple.
Yes, PH shock would probably kill a fish if the hobbyist giving the fish away was inconsiderate enough not to let the person receiving the fish know what conditions it was kept in and the consequences of rapid change.
I do not keep African's in low ph's because it prevents breeding.
No matter what my arguement here, I do strive to create an atmosphere for my fish as close as I can to chat they have in the wild. However, the need of a BN Pleco to clean algae in my tank makes that the one fish in my tank to which this is not true. My original point I was trying to get across was that if you need/want Pleco's in your African tank, feel free to put them in as they will do very well in my experience.
The people I receive my BN's from will let me know if they were in a low PH/softer water environment before I purchase them so I can acclimate them.
