I'll start off the new part of the forum by starting a nice little discussion here...

How many of you currently have had or currently have salt water tanks?

If so what type and what's your favorite species? Very Happy

ATM mine are a 90 gallon reef being slowly being parted into a 150 gallon reef Very Happy I also have a small 30 gallon tank that houses some talbot damsels and other small fish for the nephew. Lastly a 30 gallon breeder to attempt some coral propogation in Very Happy

My favorites have to be corals and my personal favorites are any species relating to the Blastomussa species Smile

What about all of you?

I'm pretty new in the sw arena. I have a 24 gallon Aquapod with around 15 lbs live rock. The inhabitants are 2 emerald crabs, 2 Pompom crabs, several hermits, 2 cleaner shrimp and my only fish is a Flame angel. I also have a condy. I did have some zoos and they didnt do so well and I also had some red grape calurpa but my snails made short work of that Laughing In about 1 or 2 weeks I will be moving the contents to a 75gallon so I can spend more money Laughing Laughing Laughing I will definately need some guidance in moving these critters in a few days.

I havent got it yet but soon. I just got my 125 fw yesterday. I'd like to do an sps tank. I'm too scared to do a sump. I have given it alot of thought but we just had a home built and if I flooded it I would be deadmeat Evil or Very Mad As far as filtration I'm not sure. I know I'll need a good skimmer & lots of live rock but other than that I havent thought about it. Any ideas???

well, the only thing is while doing an SPS tank, the only way I'd recommend doing the filtration is through sump style. SPS are very delicate and require that you have good pristine water in there. They grow so much quicker if you do, well that and calcium as well but that's a whole nother' story. Flooding can be prevented in sump styles, what were you most worried about, power outages? there are types of returns that doesn't reverse syphon in the case of a power outage, does it have overflows? Are you going to be doing an overflow box?
