nice little tank!
*keep in mind that your archer fish needs brackish water and will need a bigger tank.

Oh, and my favorite: an african dwarf clawed frog.

AnneRiceBowl. Hi, yeah he's getting big. I add freshwater-suitable tonic salts with every water change. Have had all these fish over 1 year and they are all doing well. Think the archer will have to go soon. He is becomming aggressive- jumping, spitting and hiding alot.

What AnneRiceBowl ment by brackish water is not the salts you are adding but sea salt to alter the salinity of the water from freshwater to brackish water but not to much as to change it to saltwater Wink

My mistake. I assumed this was making the water mildly brackish. But what if I use the salt for marine aquariums? Would there be any side effects for the other tank-dwellers? 2x banjo catfish, 2x plecos, 1x talking catfish, 1x dwarf clawed frog and 3x Rosey Barbs?

Not to mention the plants? I might just get rid of the archer. Anyone in Dublin looking for one?

To be honest mate unless your going to get a bigger tank for the archer fish which will also idealy be set up as a brackish tank (yes you do use marine salt to do this) then i would seriously look at taking the fish back towhere you got it from, unless you know anybody with a brackish tank, as therest of your fish will not tolerate brackish water, also you say you have 2 x pleco's, do you know which ones they are ? the reason i ask is if they are what i think they are your tank is not big enough for even one of them, if you dont know what they are post pictures so as i can id them if i can Very Happy

Unless they're ancistrus pleco's, that 70L will certainly be too small; however, if they are ancistrus (bushynose), then, you may be alright. I have Rosy Barbs in with my ancistrus in a 75 Gallon tank (283L) and have 11 ancistrus living together amicably. I also have pairs of ancistrus living in our version of your 70L (roughly 75L). One albino pair with many, many fry in one and the other a brown pair, again with tons of fry. If the pleco's aren't ancistrus, you may be asking for trouble as some of them aren't too kind to conspecifics and the aggression levels will only be elevated with proximity. Just my two pennies. I would hate for you to lose fish.
best regards
mike

Tanks (Get it!!!) again for the help. (I've been drinking). I think you are right. My local fish supplier will take most fish back. I had to order the archer as a special. So I'll find out tomorrow. Otherwise I will sell it here hopefully. The plecos are 'common plecos', I think. See poor photo:

Here is a better one off the net that looks a good match:

I have 2, which are getting big now. About 3'' and 3.5''.

I think I'll go back to keeping cardinal tetras if I get rid of the archer and 2 plecos. Do you think they would be ok with the rest of the fish?

And what about my talking catfish (Platydoras costatus):

This guy is very chilled and seems oblivious to other fish. When he moves about (which is rare) they keep clear of him. Damn he is ugly though. One of my favorites!

Thanks again!

My rosy barbs don't bother my neons or cardinals overly but there is a lot more room in the tank they share. There's a dozen cardinals and a couple dozen large neons and 10 or so rosy barbs. It's my planted tank in the living room. It's a 180 (681L) tank.

Anyway, I tried to take some pics of my Rosy barbs in there... and of course they won't hold still. So here are the passable pics.

Hi as i thought you have common plecs going by the pics you have posted, unfortunatly your tank is not big enough for one of them, never mind 2, so unless your planning on getting a bigger tank soon, then i would look at rehoming them as quick as possible heres a link to them

Your Platydoras costatus are better in groups, but you can keep a single specimin, and with the size of tank you have i would not go for a group, unless your going to get the bigger tank Laughing

thank you clunkster!

dano, i think your most economical way of properly stocking your tank would be to rehome the fish that will not thrive in your tank and do some research and get fish that will do well in the tank that you have now.

Thanks all again! Nice tank, Mike. I decided I'm going to sell the archer and the 2 common plecos. I'm going to try maybe 10 cardinals instead. I'll have to check first if the talking catfish or dwarf clawed frog would eat them. Doubt the frog could. I have decided on a suitable signature! Below.
