Post subject: Atyopsis moluccensis (Singapore shrimp)
I have GREAT news! One of my four female Singapore shrimp is carrying eggs! There are so many that she's having a difficult time carrying them all. I'll be keeping a blog here so everyone can follow along, and so that I can document it. Most of you don't know that the wild habitat of these shrimp is being quickly destroyed, scientists do not know much about this species, and all of this species that are sold in stores are wild caught. So, I am hoping to help save a species. I will be getting help from the people over on petshrimp.com, and hopfeully my beginner's luck hasn't worn out (and I hope I haven't just jinxed myself).
So...Stay tuned for updates!!!

Wow it looks to be similar to the Amano shrimp process, looks like a lot of work. Good luck!
Yeah, I usually have really good beginner's luck, but...I am going to be trying my best efforts on this project. I'm glad I am not moving in October like I had planned.
How in the heck do I test the salinity in water? What else do I need to test water with sea water??
Just got back awhile ago from mpp's house, and I now have the saltwater mix to start setting up a 10 gallon for raising the shrimp. Now, I just need to rehome some dwarf puffers. Anyone interested in some DPs?

you know, I was thinking, you might just want to bring them along to the swap on Sunday. If nothing else, you may end up with store credit at petworld... just a thought. Maybe see if you can get a good price from Haley as a backup plan.

I was directed to a page on Amano shrimp breeding, which is possibly similiar to Singapore shrimp breeding. I am going to be using these similiar methods:

Just a tip-
I would definately call and talk to Haley first. We all know she's flexible - but there are times when there are other factors where her hands are tied. Better to give her lead time to make the sale internally if she has to!
Wish I had more space...puffers are cool little buggers.
Well, the DPs are now at Pet World (which reminds me that I need to send Haley a care sheet). I traded them in for a hydrometer (I am too broke for a refractometer).
Today, I tore down their 10 gallon and now have it sitting in the sun light to sterilize. Tomorrow, I will be setting it up for the zoes (newly hatched Singapore shrimp).
AND...Guess what I found this morning??? A second female carrying eggs!
Oh, I have also been told that the Singapore shrimp carry their eggs for 40-60 days. Which means that I only have 37-57 days to go.

Well, the hubby has finally returned, and he brought back our digital video camera that takes still pics. I played with the camera for a few minutes last night and got a few good shots, but the only Singapore shrimp that I was able to get a pic of was a female that wasn't carrying eggs. So, once hubby finishes with the camera, I can show you guys some pics.

Okay, I really tried to catch either of the females out in the some-what-open, but they're not moving from the current of the filter and the cover of the hygro. This was the absolute best that I could do. They are next to each other. You can just barely see their eggs:
