Thanks clunkster, I am still trying to get the feel for the camera. I think I need to shrink the pics a but because they are really grainy when I post them, but I guess they are better than camera phone pics. lol

ALSO!!!! Yesterday evening when I was getting a few more pics, I found a THIRD female carrying eggs! One more female to go, and all four of my females will be carrying!

I have more pics, but they won't be up until later.

The best way to get the feel of the camera is to keep taking photos Wink So you have a third female carrying your gonna have a helluva lot of baby shrimps then, do you know what the avarage size of a spawn is ?

LOL Yes! I have been taking alot of pics in the evening (so there's no glare from the large window in the room).

I have no idea how many shrimp to expect from each female. I just know that each female (especially the first female that I found with eggs) looks like she's carrying several hundred eggs each.

With this species of shrimp, raising the shrimplets to full maturity has NOT been accomplished. Which means, I have no idea what the survival rate is. If one shrimp out of hundreds reaches adulthood, I'll be throwing a party. Laughing

So far, the only thing that I know that the zoes (yes, clunkster,, they newborns are zoes) eat is green sea water. I am still waiting on my similar question to be answered over on petshrimp.

Pinched this off another forum.
Quote:
Amano shrimp (Caridina Japonica). They don't breed in freshwater. The females may carry fertilised eggs, but the zoes (newborn shrimp) need full strength marine salt water with special green water (plankton) to actually grow and metamorphose good.
Dont know if this helps ya Confused Not sure if they have similar requirments

Yup, found that info. I am following the Amano shrimp rearing methods, but I am using a lower salinity.

So, I had cleaned out the 10 gallon that I had planned to use, and found that it had a crack in the bottom. Good thing I broke down the tank when I did. Yesterday afternoon, I returned it and got a replacement. I think it worked out for the best, because now I have a brand spankin' new tank to raise the zoe/larvae.

I have been doing some reading (again), and I think I'll need more than one tank because each developemental stage will need a tank with a different salinity. Which means, I am going to need more 10 gallons. (Gary, I may need to buy your two 10 gallons.)

I think I have just about everything that I need to get started:

10 gallon tank
salt water mix
water from the 30 gallon tank
light
sponge filter
test kits
hydrometer
turkey baster
air pump
airline tubing
check valve
thermometer
heater (if needed)

I am still needing green sea water culture or some kind of plankton to feed the zoe/larvae.
