Interesting story.

You may recall that my angels spawned a while back, guarded the eggs together a couple days then ate them.

I saw one with short, blunt tubes laying the eggs - and the other one had a somewhat longer tube and was making passes over the egss afterward. So naturally I figured that the first one was female and the second one was male.

About a week after that, the "female" started beating the tar out of the "male." So I seperated them on two occasions. No help - so I got rid of the aggressor. The "male" perked up. I did notice that "he" was bloated in the belly, so I was worried maybe "he" was getting sick. I decided to keep an eye out. Nothing odd behavior or appetite-wise. So I went and got "him" another tankmate.

Just today as I'm setting up my new tank, I notice the two cleaning the spawn slate together. Not only that, but their tubes dropped. And guess what? Compared to the new angel, the old"male" has a short, blunt tube. It was a female all along. Having only read about sexing angels, I mistaked the slight differences in the tubes of my two old females to be that of one male and one female.

That would maybe explain the aggression, too. A gravid female rivalry.

So anyway, the new fish may or may not be a male. It's making passes over the eggs and not leaving eggs behind. We'll see if they brown up or turn white.

Here are some spawning pics...

I'll update when there's something to update you on.

I know. They keep climbing on the slate & I keep knockin' them off. I need to rent a clown loach to come eat them.

You're psychic. 22_yikes How'd you know I'm fishing them out as we speak? Laughing

I'm luring them out with blanched zuchinni...it's working really well.

So far so good on day two - lots of brown eggs, about 5 white ones & the fish are tending to them.

Nothing added - no extra space (it's all about the 150 now), so I'd be happy if I got 4 or 5 fish out of it. However, I do have a guy who I could give the fry to who might raise them for me if there are a lot.

Some more white ones this morning...so we'll see. Last time it was about at this point they ate the eggs. I'll let you know if there are any in the morning.

I understood - that's why the comment about if I get a handfull I'd be happy. I'm just letting it go naturally.

Stopped back in today & peeked at them. They ate the additional white ones off & are still tending to/fanning the nice golden brown ones!!

Stay tuned..
