Hi,

I thought I would give you guys a shot at helping me out. I have had a sick blood parrot for a while, and I am open to suggestions about his illness. Basically, he lives in a tank with many other parrots. He developed a bloated stomach area region, a while back, as well as his anal tube sticking out, and his color is pale. None of the other parrots have experienced any of the similar symptoms. I just wrote it off as a swim bladder disease issue, since most of the parrots die that way, since their bladders are deformed. Is this parrot doomed, or have you guys heard or seen fish bloated in their stomach/bladder area (with their tube being exposed as a result)? He sits at the bottom all day, and doesn't really eat. From time-to-time he swims around, but nothing similar to the other parrots.

What color was it's poo last time you seen it?

The tube coming out of the anus region is white, and looks like the breeding tube (but it is not breeding right now). The parrot is whitish and bloated, with the white tube out. I couldn't take photo's last night. I will try tonight.

Here are the photos. Look at the tube on the first photo. When they laid eggs before, it didn't look like this. The parrot has a bloated looking belly on the second photo. This parrot is very pale (note the healthy colored parrot in the background). Any suggestions are welcome.

I just realized my fish has.......................dropsy........ !!!


Do you all agree?? Its scales aren't sticking out, but dropsy is all I could think of, from my research. If you agree my diagnoses...... I am assuming the parrot is a goner, and in a lot of pain. Should I put it out of its misery?

Thanks. I will try to set up a hospital tank, and see what happens. Do I just put in a ton of salt in??..... I really don't want to dip him, since I never physically touch my fish. I can see myself freaking out and dropping him, and then dies on the floor.

The epsome salts solution is best used as a bath dip and then put the afected fish in a hospital tank with ideal water quality and feed well, you can also add one of the many antibiotic meds that are available

RIP...... the parrot is dead. It died a few day ago, right before I was going to put it in the medical tank. Oh well. The parrot had a good life.

All the other fish are perfect. My large tank is now a parrot tank (but has catfish, my eel, and plecos as well). My parrots are all perfectly healthy. I think the parrot either had dropsy OR after further investigation, I might have killed the parrot by feeding it dried krill. I read that if you feed parrots dried krill, without soaking it, the krill can scratch and punction there insides and then they get bloated. I learned my lesson. I might end up giving all the krill to my red texas's out of precaution.
