And my German Blue Blushers, the very same ones I had in semi-isolation in order to spawn, have got fry. Of course while they were in the 29, they ate their eggs twice, despite only having a couple Cory Sterbai, one L204 and one L66 as companions. So I figured, they're not the "takin' care of babies" angels and I moved them up to the 180 in the living room. Now, I'm not sure what I can do about the little wrigglers. Dang it. How frustrating! In the 29, they were getting Hikari bloodworms, the best of flake, FD daphnia and Sonic's pellets. They spawned and ate their eggs anyway. Now that they're in the 180, pellets and flakes are pretty much it and NOW they choose to be good parents.... argghhhhh.
trials and tribulations of a self confessed fishnut

Here are a couple quick shots... babies are still doing ok although Mom and Dad are a couple of dumkopfs for doing it this way.

the babies were on the right overflow on the center portion, as I was cleaning yesterday, mom and dad moved all of the babies over to the rear of the overflow. It was pretty cool to watch. Course, got a little less cleaning done than I had wanted to.
regards
mike

Nice Mike.

Thanks for the pics. Are these regular spawners, or is it their first time? Sounds like they caught you by surprise.

they spawned a few times down in the 29 but kept eating their eggs and I didn't have a whole lot of time to devote to raising the babies artificially so I moved them to the community tank. silly fishies

Babies got eaten after four days of being free-swimming. I might see if i can net this next batch after they're free swimming and use a brine shrimp net to minimize damaging the fry. Not sure yet. It sure would be cool to have one of those transporter beams... just lock it in the block of babies and whoosh them into a safe tank. Shocked

Sounds like a plan. Let us know next time it happens for you and how it turns out
