Post subject: Yoyos for a Yoyo
I took part in my first SNE (Saturday Night Express) on aquabid last night, and I won an auction on 4 yoyo loaches. I've been wanting some for awhile, so I took the plunge.
So, I have a few questions for people who have had or have yoyos or other related loaches. What can be housed with them? Surprisingly, I haven't found too much on them, or at least not the info that I am looking for. Anyone have any experience with them?
Which now I am thinking that I am going to be doing some more moving around of fish. I am thinking that I am going to tweak my SE Asian tank plan in my 30 gallon long (that's what the tank started out as, but I strayed a bit), and then with the new 29 gallon, I am going to do a South American tank.

I have had 3 in my tank for over a month, they are really fun to have, always chasing each other and fighting over food. I got them because they were supposed to eat snails, but they will only eat them if I crush the shell - then they go nuts! But they won't hunt down a snail on their own. I keep them with lots of stuff including cherry shrimp, GBR, corydoras, rummynose, rainbows, they don't bug anyone other than always circling the tank.
One thing they do that freaks me out every time, they will "play dead" sometimes upside down or on their side, they lose all their color, and don't move. It looks like they are dead and the first time I got the net out and was ready to scoop but sure enough it swam away happy as ever.
I do have a neurotic one that is constantly swimming around the filter intake. All day, every day, in a little circle.
They are definately a favorite of anyone looking at the tank, they always ask about them.

Thanks for the info guys! I actually thought that they grew to 6 inches.
Do you think the SAEs in the tank would get along with them?

Did you get yours, how are they doing? Mine are more like "YiYi" loaches I guess.

Sorry this one is blurry, my Yoyos absolutely love algae wafers, here are 3 + 2 cory cats battling it out. One yoyo likes to grab the whole thing and take it to a corner and hog it until another steals it back.

I don't have them any more. I didn't have enough room for them, and they were tearing up my plants with all their digging.

Wierd, mine don't dig at all. They also don't eat snails like intended, unless I crush them up, serve them on fine china, and put on classical music.

Most loaches will leave the snails alone if they are well fed, as it is a lot easier having the can opened for you, than having to open the can yourself
