If you have a nice yellow stripe on the dorsal fin and on the tail...it might be one of these guys....

That's my Gold Nugget - Goldie. Pretty original naming, huh?

But careful - there are three different varieties. I would defer to clunkster & mpp on the L number. Besides, those look like REALLY fine spots - and there are several varieties of plecs with fine spots. But on the other hand - it looks as if you may have a gold bar on the tail like a nugget. Do you have or can you get us a side shot?

And there is the V-E-R-Y distinct possibility that I'm jumping the gun on the Gold Nugget family, too.

If it is - congrats. One of the most popular & sought after plecs. And my favorite in my tank.

So mpp...clunk... am I close?

Parrotlover, I'm pretty sure its an L81- small spot gold nugget. Fairly rare and hard to keep, but absolutely stunning.

cool. I thought it was a golden nugget, but the photos on the internet of this fish had large spots, and mine has small spots. It was sold to me on the premise that it was a golden nugget, but when I couldn't find any on the net that looked similar, I decided to ask the pro's! Thanks guys. I guess I should probably move it to the parrot tank if it is rare. I don't want the texas to kill it!

I believe I figured out the true identity of my pleco. It is not a golden nugget, it is L067 "lot spot pleco".
