Post subject: Old Walmart's aquarium system
Just noticed this in the paper, all it says is MARINELAND Aquarium System. Any idea what this is?

I would hazard a guess at they are closing down a store and are selling every thing off, so its probably something to do with the tanks system

I'll bet it's the rack of tanks and the filtration that goes along with it. Thanks for pointing it out! Do you think you're going to be interested in it?

Speaking of that -
How much do you find each additional tank costs you in utilities monthly?
Ours shot up when I set the 55g again & am getting some guff over it. I'm not convinced the tank was the only factor. Anyone have an estimate?

My 'lectric bill is about $250 a month. I'm replacing most of the incandescent bulbs with the power compact ones to try and offset the cost a little.
expensive hobby isn't it?!?!

There's no way I'd buy a Wal-Mart tank system to use as my own. I don't thik there's a sterilization method good enough to make it safe again. One time while I was waiting for an oil change and had plenty of time to waste, I saw at least 2 fish in every tank with ich, at least 2 dead fish in every tank, dieing fish in every tank, some with velvet, many starving fish, and I also saw other fish with other diseases.
My electric bill is around $97 a month for a 3 bedroom apartment with a hubby that uses alot of electricty for his hobby (musician) and with 7 tanks with a light and filter and 2 tanks with just a light on it (those 2 are betta homes). Before I got the tanks, I think the monthly electric bill was around $75 or $80.

That saddens me greatly, even the most ignorant of employees can see something is wrong there...I mean honestly.

When I bring things like this to their attention, I always get "They're just fish" or "The fish guy's coming in tomorrow". I admit that I got to that location often, and I make it a point to check on the bettas everytime I go there, which means I've gotten a feel for what employees work in that department, and if their fish guy is who I think it is, then they're operating in the 6th century B.C.
One of the main methods Wal-Mart cuts costs in fish is to not feed them, and the sick fish are not medicated, they are flushed down the toilet.

Possibly the most stupid thing that you can do "Oh look we have a dead fish ! What shall we do with it" ? I know flush it down the toilett in to the main waterways, we dont know what infections the body is carrying, so how the hell do you know what your flushing away ?

Haha exactly... why does wal-mart EVEN carry fish? I mean..I understand they want to be a store of everything...but really EVERYTHING? They really need to stick to just dry goods.

Walmart is only out to make money. They don't care about the hobbyist. The workers in that department are hired as Fish Folks. They are hired as another body that can net fish. They know nothing about fish or really anything for that matter. I remember a very long time ago getting a few fish from a walmart. We waited for about 20 minutes for this lady to try and catch them. I told her to let mw give it a shot at it. She said that I wasn't supposed too. I kinda rolled my eyes at her and gave her a ppffffffttttttt. She then agreed. I had them caught within seconds. She was amazed. I laughed let her bag them up and left.

I do admit though I have found myself standing there for 10 minutes trying to catch a fish before. I get kind of embarassed but oh well.
