Can discus be housed with any other fish and is there anywhere to get them where they don't cost a ton of money?

Discus can be housed with other fish. You just need to check on the temps for the fish you'd like to house with them. L333's are a pretty pleco and are comfortable in the higher temps that discus like.

I'd venture to guess that Gary (Melonhead) has the most experience with discus on this particular forum.

Depending on what you want I might be able to order some from my store for wholesale price, we get most of our discus from and iowa breeder and gulf coast discus.

Some fish can do very well with Discus - particularly some in the pleco family. Some tetras do well in warmer water, too - and make for a great contrast in the tank with large discus.

What kind of fish were you thinking of?

Aloha, been away for quite sometime now due to health issues. I have 100 cardinals in a bowfront tank with 5 adult female discus non breeders and have never had a problem. Ive also had rummynose tetras and emarld eye rasboras. The only placos in this tank is Bns. Most others will feed on the slime coat of the discus or disturb them as they are most active during the night. Angels will out compete the discus for food therefore some will not get what they need to stay healthy.

Right now if your looking I have a group of discus I would like to sell to make room for some of my Leopard fry and some Leopard SSs also. The ones for sale are Red melons and some violet reflections.

If you want you can cotact me at 402-721-6287.

Hope I can Help you more, Ike Very Happy

Yoga,

Before you just go and buy discus, make sure you really do your homework. Discus need almost daily water changes, and if you are buying Asin fish then you need to have very soft water. I keep mine at a conductivity of 200uS (microsiemens) Ph6.6
Most discus keepers only keep discus in BB tanks (bare bottom) with only a couple of cories or Bristlenose plecos / Ansistrus as a clean up crew.

Try Simply Discus or bidka for US suppliers of fish. Most will post live fish.

hth

Steve
