The C-360 Canister Filter offers a complete 3-stage filtration with virtually no bypass ensuring complete water flow through the filter trays. Stage 1(Mechanical Filtration): Aquarium water is first filtered through the filter foam pad, which screens out dirt and traps particulate debris. Stage 2(Chemical Filtration): After going through the filter foam pad water is then filtered through the carbon filter bag, which removes odors, discoloration, and impurities. Stage 3(Biological Filtration): Lastly water is then filtered through the bio-filter balls and ceramic rings, which provide a large multi-faceted surface area for the growth of nitrifying bacteria. This filter also includes the filter floss pad, which acts as a water polisher, removing fine debris.
