I started dinking around with these a little while back. They're by far the best thing I've used for feeding veggies to plecs so far. They're better for holding on to big chunks than clips in my opinion.

They're 2" x 3" - but I could easily make larger ones for larger plecs.

They're heavy ceramic tile and are held together by aquarium safe silicone. As you can see, they can hold several veggies at once. I attach fishing line to the loop in the middle for easy in & out - although you could remove it if you choose.

I'm soon going to start Aquabidding them...and possibly selling them in some other places, too.

Anyway...if you'd like one or two or...oh, say fifty...I'd be glad to make some up. How about $1.50 each or 5 for $5 for forum people. I'm thinking twice that on Aquabid.

Or...if you have something to trade I'd be up for that, too. Small plecs, extra heaters, filters, or anything else you might think of. I like making them. Very Happy

I bet if you got some terra cotta clay and shaped it into tiles, it would work without altering pH.

He could have meant the plecos or the tiles. But just in case, I'll answer both ways.

I put them in all my tanks. My discus tank pH isn't that low really. It's about 7.0 to 7.2 and all works out well. And I've been using these for months...haven't noticed any ill effects at all from using them. There's just not much to them size wise...about 2" x 3"

Anne - I'm sure you're right - clay would work well, too...but no kiln so I'm sticking with tile.

These are sooo easy - I just love 'em. Lower them in at night - fish them out the next day. They're nice & heavy...no wet hands...it's really a breeze.

re-read it gary what i was asking was and, in which tank would mbovinet place the plecs that he would like to keep as i think all he has is african cichlids, with higher pH than most plecs would be happy with

I have pleco's in all my African tanks at PH's around 8.3. Hardy little suckers they are. Smile

yes they can be hardy little suckers but all i am trying to point out is that they are not ment to be in that kind of pH or biotype, as one lot of fish are from africa the other fish are from south america just my opinion

I agree they are not in that type of water in the wild. However, almost every prominent African breeder I know keeps some type or many types of Pleco's in their tanks and not only do they survive, they thrive! If they are thriving, I have to believe that it is a match that not only works, but works well. In fact, many of the African keepers I know will actually breed some species in the same tank as their Africans.

One gentleman I know keeps all of the following in with his Africans and has for years:

Gold Nugget
'Iriri' Gold Seam
King Tiger
Bristlenose (albino, snowflake, normal)
Clown

so working by this theroy would you also try to keep african cichlids with marine fish as they both have high pH values ? the reason i ask is because they are also two very differant biotype's

How do you figure that my theory would allow African's with marine fish? Would African's thrive with marine fish? They wouldn't even survive...
Can't compare apples to oranges.

We can get into the biotype arguement if you want, but I have been there before and if you can argue either way if you take a hard line stance. All those arguements do is raise many questions to which there are numerous answers to.

Is a glass rectangle in your living room a decent replication of any biotype?

If a fish thrives and breeds in your tank does it mean that biotype doesn't matter at all?

Should a hobbyist only keep fish in the type of water and surroundings as found in their natural habitat?

My personal stance on this is that if fish thrive and breed in different water conditions then why should we as hobbyists limit ourselves to what we keep based on biotype alone. Also, I find that almost no one keeps conditions in their tanks exactly like those in the fishes natural habitat. There are always traces of elements in their surroundings that would never be found in the aquarium.

Just my $0.02. If you don't like them that way more power to ya. I do what I enjoy as long as the fish thrive and seem to be healthy and happy. Smile
