The Pimelodus blochii is a peacefull fish but can nip at tankmates of the same species, as with a lot of other catfish you should not mix with small fish, as if it will fit in the mouth then it can be eaten. The P.blochii locates its food or pray by smell and by probing with its antenna they especialy like worms. They are equiped with a spine (barbed) in the dorsal fin which is said to be poisonous. If there is a shortage of oxygen then the fish can/may change to surface breathing via an intestinal respitory system. The P.blochii likes to be provided with hidding places durring lights on
