No pics yet - soon.

About two weeks ago, my ABN evicted my asian bumblebee cats from the tile cave I made. Since then, they've been hanging around it a lot...especially the male.

From some past reading, I knew that was spawning behavior. So I've just been waiting them out - hoping they'd eventually spawn. Work has been crazy lately, so I haven't been checking on it...until today.

I shined a flashlight in and sure enough Dad is guarding a big ol' wad of yellow eggs stuck in the back-upper corner of the cave. Cool!!

The only thing is...I don't have room for a bunch of fry so...

mpp - other than maybe two which I'll put in my kid's 20 - would you want to take them & sell them when they hatch & if they survive?

And anyone who knows:
What's the normal survival rate?
Are they like angels & corys? Will they eat the fry?
At what age can they be moved?
Anything else I might need to know or links for me?

Pics coming soon.

Hi Gary
I can certainly try, although BN and ABN sales have been very, very slow lately. I probably have 600 fry/juvies at the moment even after getting rid of 4 breeding pairs. Survival rate is usually pretty good, for the eggs that hatch, most if not all make it. Mom and dad do not predate on their young, nor do any other non-related BNs. For the very young (right after they come out of the cave for the first time) I blanch zuchini to pre-soften it a little. Once they're about 1/2 in long, they get raw veggies from then on. I also alternate between zuchini and the small pellets I bought from Sonic off of aquabid. The older juvies/adults get bloodworms once a week too. I move them when they're a few months old and are about an inch - an inch and half in total length. They're slower growers than cichlid fry. I will give you a call in the morning, I just got back and am hitting the rack in a few.

regards
mike
